Glory Ugalde

Meet the owner of Technique Salon, Glory Ugalde. “Technique Salon is based off of a very hospitable approach to inviting clients in and paired with expertise. The biggest thing is that clients know that they are wanted & welcome here, that it’s a comfortable environment for them, their needs are being met, and they have everything they need while they’re at their appointment so they can relax & actually enjoy it. We like to make things worry-free, whether that means they need to work while they’re here – we have the amenities for them to plug-in their computer & work, or if they’re thirsty or hungry we can make sure they get what they need so they’re not suffering through a long appointment. On the technical side, I really do love chemistry and the actual science of how it’s all done. I feel the hair laboratory is my way of expressing that. I think it’s very important to not only understand a few techniques, but why they work, which is what makes our stylists like hair masterminds. We want to be hair cutters not know-haircuts. We want to be hair colorists, not know-hair color techniques so our #1 priority is to get stylists out of the box so to speak so that they can innovate & create hybrids with the techniques we have.”

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: I happened upon this career by accident. I actually was in a salon in New Mexico and made jewelry and thought a salon would be the perfect place to display and sell the jewelry I made. I contacted my friend and set up in her shop, and that day I didn’t sell a single piece of jewelry, but as I was looking around, I saw the environment and it just really intrigued me. I kind of wondered why I had never thought of it before being a creative person, and I was immediately drawn to the idea of it so I went the very next day to find out where I could go to school and start my education. I went to the Redken Salon Professional Academy. As timing would have it, I had shown my interest just in time to get right in. It was kind of serendipitous. I never looked back honestly.
