Derek and Kristen Trombetta

Meet the owners of 970 Muscle, Derek and Kristen Trombetta. “970 Muscle is an overall passion. We love our community and want to help our community out. This place is special because we love fitness & we love Grand Junction too! Seeing what it does for people, inspiring people to live their best life is what is so special to us. 970 Muscle is 1 million percent our passion. It takes people from all walks of life and gives a place to create community, feel safe and special.”



Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: Kristen- I grew up with my parents and 2 brothers that encouraged being active & healthy! I always knew that I wanted to help people live their best lives and being a Fitness Coach has been my avenue for that.

Derek- Fitness has never NOT been a part of my life. I remember as a child doing push-ups, sit-ups, and leg raises morning and night. I’ve always loved being a Fitness Coach. I enjoy the results and challenges – if I work hard at something and see the results, I love it. I just love fitness and I love sharing my passion with and helping people.


Q: What is your favorite restaurant in The Grand Valley, and what do you love there?

A: Kristen- Bin 707, love their Bin Burger & side salad

Q: How long have you lived or worked in The Grand Valley?

A: Kristen- since 2006 when I came here from Loveland to go to college

Derek- my entire life minus a short time in California


Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in The Grand Valley?

A: Derek- my grandfather. He was an incredible outdoorsman and geologist.


Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?  And why?

A: Kristen- Cinque Terre, to travel the 5 villages in Italy would be amazing.

Derek- Isla Mujeres, absolutely one of my favorite places to be. Peaceful and beautiful!


Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?

A: Kristen- My favorite movie is Dumb & Dumber

Derek- The first movie I saw in a theatre was the original animated Lion King


Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: Kristen- Take one moment at a time, embrace what’s in front of you and give it your very best.

Derek- Life is short and not promised, don’t waste it living someone else’s life or idea what life should be. Life is extremely precious and we only have so many breaths, don’t you dare waste them!


Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: Kristen- Cinque Terre

Q: What is your favorite music / 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?

A: Kristen- Ziggy Marley

Derek- Favorite band ever is the Eagles


Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about The Grand Valley?

A: Derek– Aladdin’s Castle


Q: Choosing any non-relative (alive or not): with whom would you love to have lunch?  Why?  Where in The Grand Valley would you have lunch?

A: Kristen- Oprah, I would take her on a picnic in the mountains

Derek- Marcus Aurelius and I would take him on a picnic so I could just listen.


Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about The Grand Valley?

A: Kristen- I love being close to everywhere like Moab, Vail, Grand Mesa.

Derek- I love the location also but I truly love the people here.


Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: Kristen- Here in Grand Junction doing this but reaching more people.

Derek- Same thing just on whatever scale that transforms into to help the most people as qualitatively as we can.


Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: Kristen- I lived in Denmark after college and played volleyball.

Derek- I kind of grew up as a little farmer/rancher.


Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: Kristen- Love, community, laughter (and dogs!)

Derek- Love, safety, peace.


Q: Who would you like to see nominated for this project, The Faces of The Grand Valley?

A: Kristen- Ella Dillon for a nomination for the Face of The Grand Valley. She’s a senior at Fruita Monument and trains with me. She has a scholarship to play and is a rare individual in regards to self-discipline and chasing goals at a young age. Lacrosse.

Q:  If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?

A: Kristen- Will Ferrell

Derek- The Rock


Q:  If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose?

Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer or Nanny?

A: Kristen- Chef

Derek- Chef
